Guinness Hops Store, Dublin 9th June 2006
Description of performance: Talking MirrorDressed elegantly in black, I carry a large circular mirror through the various spaces, stairs and corridors of the venue, walking backwards using the mirror to navigate. I make eye contact with various members of the audience (of roughly 200 people) and engage in conversation with people about my actions, the background to the piece, its meanings and symbolism, but only speaking through the mirror.
Description of Video installation: Burning HouseAlongside this live work, I also project a video work, installed in an alcove of the main area that the audience moved through. The video is (an eight minute in duration, looped) reversed footage of my dog house burning in my garden in Clare. The video describes the progression of a structure (of unknowable scale similar in proportion to a domestic house) from burnt embers and ashes back to completeness, integrity and reconstruction.
