UR 10th & 11th November, Nuns Island Studio Galway
Born in Oran Algeria, Françoise Berlanger now lives and works in Brussels. Working in theatre since 1989 and extensive performance across Europe, collaborating with directors, musicians and artists. Her first piece of dramatic writing, L'oeuf blanc, was selected for the Enfin seul (4) festival in Brussels in October 2006. In 2001, she decided to explore theatre through other disciplines like music and visual art, joining forces with the visual artist Marcel Berlanger, the composer Dan Liefooghe and the musician F-X Locquet on a work adapted from 'Penthesilea' a play by the romantic German writer Heinrich von Kleist. Penthesilea was created for Kunstenfestivaldesarts in 2006 .
Visual artist and plastician, Marcel Berlanger is associated to the projects Penthesilea and LOeuf blanc. He has been collaborating for some years now with his sister Françoise Berlanger on multidisciplinary theatrical performance. He has recently started working with the Galerie Rodolphe Janssen in Brussels.
Like all Françoise Berlangers performances, UR was born out of a dream: an emty scene, the presence of a naked body telling her birth and the sound of three dry guitars, classic and gipsy ones, playing loudly. Green light during the whole scene .. UR is one of the oldest towns in history. UR is about the origin of the artists personal and intimate history. About stories before her birth, about events which structured and destructured the artistic language, about a process transforming silence, sore/hurts or sense of guilt into a story that concerns everybody.
