Kevin Flanagan (Galway) is a visual artist and curator. As an artist he works with a wide range of media from drawing to video and performance. His performance work explores the meeting of the personal and political. His drawings deal with issues of haphazard and control. As a curator Flanagan has primarily been involved with Galway based artist group ENSO, of which he was a founding member. He is currently doing a Masters of Fine Art at the University of Ulster, Belfast.
Mapping Humanity is an ongoing art action. Where individuals of different nationalities are invited to mark their respective homeland, its name and flag in white on a World Map, One by one as neighbouring nations are painted, borders, markers of territory begin to disappear. Flanagan will travel with the map until it is complete. The completed map will present an image of a world without borders or boundaries where all lands and peoples can be seen as one. Marking the map is a simple gesture towards peace, equality and solidarity among the peoples of Earth.
